Pairs
- Always split Aces and 8s.
- Never split 10s or 5s.
- Split 2s, 3s, 6s and 7s against a dealer 2–6 or 7.
- Split 9s against 2–9 except 7.
Why insurance is a bad bet
Insurance pays 2 to 1 when the dealer has blackjack, but the true odds are worse than that, giving the house an edge of around 7% on the side bet. Skip it every time.
Speed and bet size
Electronic blackjack moves quickly. Keep bets at 1 to 2% of your budget, as in our bankroll rules, and take a breath before doubling.
Blackjack vs Baccarat
Blackjack with perfect strategy edges out Baccarat banker bets, but Baccarat needs no decisions. If you prefer a no-thinking game, see our Baccarat banker guide.
